Sustainable and renewable energy source is imperative to any country as it forms the basic foundation for sustainable development. Hydropower is the leading renewable source for electricity generation globally and dominates approximately 71% of all renewable electricity generated in 2016 .

Today, energy is critical to drive economic transformation around the world and the energy trilemma that afflicts the industry encompasses sustainable, affordable, clean and renewable energy. “Sustainable energy for Sarawak and beyond” captures our ambition to provide clean, renewable and reliable power for the growth and prosperity of the region whilst conducting business in a manner that is fair, just and equitable to society’s needs, environmental wellbeing and the need for economic growth.

Sarawak Energy strives to integrate a robust sustainability agenda into the heart of its corporate strategy, in line with the belief that appropriate management of sustainability issues is critical in realising its vision. With more than 77% of its energy mix from renewable hydro, Sarawak Energy is in a position to lead in the development of clean, renewable and sustainable energy to realise its vision of becoming an ASEAN powerhouse.

Sarawak Energy is committed to implementing its hydropower development projects in accordance to the guidelines set out by the Hydropower Sustainability Assessment Protocol (HSAP). We are also guided by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals – a set of 17 targets that call for the cooperation of the public and private sectors and civil society to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all by the year 2030. Sarawak Energy currently a Platinum Member of the International Hydropower Association (IHA) and its GCEO is one of the IHA Board Member. In addition, Sarawak Energy’s Executive Vice President (Corporate Services) is a Vice President in United Nation’s Global Compact, Malaysia Chapter.
